How is Drano made?
All Drano products are different variations of one simple Drano Formula, which is just a certain amount of water to a certain amount of sodium hydroxide (NaOH). Each different product, all have different ingredients added towards it with the simple formula; for instance Drano Kitchen Crystal Clog Remover* is made of:
Sodium Hydroxide can be extracted using the Castner Kellener process. Here sodium ions are reduced to sodium metal which forms as an amalgam (which is an alloy of mercury and another metal) with mercury cathode. When this is dissolved in water, sodium hydroxide is produced Sodium Hydroxide (2008). Aluminum Chips are just very small chipped aluminum. Sodium Nitrate can be produced by placing ammonium nitrate with sodium hydroxide poured over it which will quickly react and generate ammonia gas and sodium nitrate, water should be added and stirred until the sodium nitrate has dissolved Nurd Rage (n.d.). Sodium chloride, salt, is the ionization of sodium and chlorine; this useful row material can be mined out or can be evaporated from sea water BBC Science (n.d.). Sun Chemical Pigment Green #7, which is a yellowish green ink Sun Chemicals (2006), has no information about how this material is extracted but this material is produced by "Sun Chemical". This paragraph just claims how the ingredients from Drano Kitchen Crystal Clog Remover are extracted, it is reminded that not all Drano products' ingredients are extracted the same way as these some may but not all. The S.C. Johnsons Family Company has not provided any information on how Drano products are processed or packaged.
